Active learning: 'Un lion à Paris'
Developing storytelling skills for secondary teachers – primary colleagues are very much the experts in this field and collaborative planning of what can be taught and achieved is essential.
The focus of this project is the storybook 'Un Lion à Paris' by Beatrice Alemagna (© Autrement Editions 2006) This is a picture book which centres on the landmarks of Paris whilst exploring the emotions of the main character, a lion. There are clear commonalities between a pupil moving up to a secondary school and the lion which leaves the comfort of the savannah and moves to Paris. He experiences a range of emotions as he travels around trying to make friends. The children will explore the text at length in Year 6 and learn the appropriate vocabulary to enable them to create their own versions via the use of a Learning Platform in Year 7.
